Boijmans Van Beuningen is showing the work of three of the 20th century’s most influential sculptors-photographers: Brancusi (1876-1957), Rosso (1858-1928) and Man Ray (1890-1976). Their masterpieces have been flown in from top collections all over the world, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Visitors who have witnessed Maxwan’s previous exhibition designs (Reality Machines, The International Architecture Biennale) will not be surprised to find the Boymans’ main exhibition hall to be transformed beyond recognition. In the words of Sjarel Ex, Maxwan has created a heaven, where the artists can be experienced simultaneously (in the great corridor), separately (in dedicated niches) or interactively (in an abstracted recreation of their ateliers).
